Prejudice and Belonging – Ethiopia National Pavilion

“Prejudice and Belonging” is the Ethiopia’s debut at the 2024 Venice Art Biennale, and we had the pleasure of being a part of it, narrating the exhibition through the words and perspective of the artist Tesfaye Urgessa.

The exhibition reflects over a decade of Urgessa’s study and artistic exploration throughout his time in Germany and onto his return to his hometown of Addis Ababa. Underscored by his personal experience of migration, Urgessa’s artistic practice became a powerful means of expressing the complexities inherent in displacement and cultural identity.
